The Curator's Notes: Nord & Nord AIO by Smoktech
- 08 Mar, 2019
Today we’re taking a look at the Nord & Nord AIO 22 from Smoktech. The Nord is an ultraportable aimed at the higher wattage crowd and the Nord AIO 22 is the same idea remixed into an AIO style setup. The coils are where these devices really shine – high-wattage vapers finally have an ultraportable designed for them with a unique draw.
The first thing you’ll notice about the Nord is its design – unique while being familiar to ultraportable users. The device feels very durable and well made in hand. The pods are easily removable and held in by friction – no magnets or clips to worry about. The coils are pushed into the bottom of the pod instead of screwed in like typical coils. Filling is easy – on the side of the pod there is a silicone plug. The plug is easily removable and secured into the pod so it won’t get lost. Nord pods hold 3ml and replaceable pods are available – I usually have one with Yukon and one with Lawn Chair from Riot Vapes.
The 1100mAh battery lasts me most of a day with the 0.6 coil and I generally get a full day with the 1.4-ohm coils. Nord is button activated with a 8 second cut-off. When the Nord is fully charged, the button will have a green LED. At medium power the LED will turn to yellow/orange and when it’s low it will change to red. The Nord fires at 10-15w.
If you’ve used a AIO in the past, the Nord AIO 22 will be a nice refresh of what you’re used to. The tank is removed to replace coils and fills from the top. The top fill swings out and is secured by a button, just like the Baby Beast v2, and holds 3.5ml. The button lock prevents the tank from accidentally opening – anyone who’s had a slide-top tank open in their pocket will understand why this is such a great design. The gasket being placed in the upper portion helps improve the durability and reduce excess eliquid from spilling. Airflow comes in from two non-adjustable sets of 3 holes evenly spaced just under where the tank connects to the battery.
A 2000mah battery typically will last most users all day and charges quickly. When the battery is >70% the button LED will be green, orange when 30-69%, and red when it’s <30%. Pressing the power button twice will display these LEDs. Charging is easy via micro USB, just like the Nord. Smok states the Nord AIO 22 fires between 6-30w.
Both of these devices share the same coils – a 0.6-ohm mesh coil, a 1.4-ohm MTL coil, and a 1.4-ohm ceramic coil. Rather than use an airflow control ring, both of these devices use the coil to change the airflow. The 1.4-ohm coils will provide a mouth-to-lung style draw and work better with higher nicotine eliquid. The draw with these coils is more similar to other ultraportables on the market. The 0.6-ohm mesh coil is better with lower nicotine strength eliquid. The 0.6-ohm mesh coil has a draw that feels similar to a higher wattage tank or RBA – just the right mix of airiness, vapor density with fantastic flavor to boot.
Nord & Nord AIO are durable, well-built ultraportables with a coil for everyone while keeping it simple with 3 coil options. If you've read this far, using the coupon code "TCNORD" will take $4 off until 3/22/19 at 11:30 PM CST. If you typically vape a higher wattage, the 0.6 ohm mesh coil will have a familiar draw with a great balance of density, flavor and vapor production. If you vape at a lower wattage, just pop in one of the 1.4-ohm coils. The draw will go down to a MTL draw with an emphasis on flavor.
