The Curator's Notes: Lost Vape's Orion & Orion Q
- 08 Jan, 2019
We’ve carried almost every Lost Vape product to date and have been impressed with their durability and reliability. Lost Vape uses a distinct styling for their mods and machining quality is top notch. The Orion and Orion Q continue these trends and have taken the vaping world by storm. The Orion Q is a standard ultraportable with preset wattage and a single pod variant. The Orion is the most advanced ultraportable on the market and utilizes two pod varieties and the DNA Go chipset. The Orion family can use both freebase nicotine and nicotine salts - we've seen most users use 12mg for freebase and 25mg for salts.
All pods for the Orion and Orion Q hold 2ml, are easily refillable and have airflow control (AFC) at the base of the driptip. The Orion Q can use the 1.0 ohm pod while the Orion utilizes the 0.25 ohm for direct lung (DL) and 0.5 ohm for mouth-to-lung (MTL) vaping styles. To refill the pods, simply unscrew the cap, fill with your liquid and screw the cap back in. We recommend letting the pods sit for 5 minutes after filling for the first time to allow the cotton to be fully saturated by the eliquid. Several users have reported taking 5 long draws without firing the mod also helps saturate the cotton. There are tracks on the pods that line up with tracks on the mod - sliding the pod into place will secure it with a lock. To remove pods, disengaged the lock on the side of the device and pull the pod.
My preferred flavors and settings for each pod are:
- 0.25 ohm DL pod: Rezul eLiquid's Isotope 9mg at 17.5w with 5 boost. Every note comes through very well - from the flaky dough to the honey drizzled pistachios.
- 0.5 ohm MTL pod: 8816's Yukon nicotine salt 25mg at 11w with 2 boost. Yukon is one of my all time favorites and the Orion really brings the flavor out well. Fans of tobaccos will enjoy this combination. I also really enjoy Green Apple 12mg from Simplex in this pod.
- 1.0 ohm Orion Q pod: Coval's Pearberry 12mg is simply fantastic. Pearberry is one of our most popular flavors and at 12mg in the Orion Q it's sure to impress.
The Orion Q
The Orion Q is a simple plug and play pod system. The wattage is preset at 17w and there is one pod available - the 1.0 ohm refillable. The Orion Q is a fantastic on the go vape that is quickly taking over the vape world with it's sleek look and fantastic performance. Flavor is great off of the 1.0 ohm pod but does need to sit for a few minutes after filling for the first time to properly prime the coil. If you want a traditional ultraportable with a focus on flavor, the Orion Q is a great option.
The Orion Q has a 950mAh capacity and charges via micro USB. There is a LED indicator above micro USB port - Blue represents 64 - 100%, Purple represents 18-63% and Red represents 0-17%.
The Orion (DNA version)
The Orion is the most advanced pod system on the market and features the DNA Go chip. The DNA Go allows you to save 3 wattages per pod style (0.25 direct lung and 0.5 mouth to lung), easily see your battery life and lock in the perfect vape with Replay.
The Orion is light at 87 grams and is very compact at 93mm tall, 37mm wide and 13.5mm deep. The pod holds 2ml of eLiquid and has adjustable airflow on the base of the drip tip. The Orion has a 950 mAh battery and is rechargeable via micro USB at up to 1A - Lost Vape advertises that the Orion can fully recharge in 45 minutes. There are only two buttons on the Orion - the fire button and the selector button. The fire button is used for locking/unlocking the device as well as vaping and the adjustment button is used to check battery life, change wattage and DNA Replay.
To check battery life just press the fire button 2 times quickly and the LED will flash a color to show battery life.
- Blue: 95-100%
- Green: 70-95%
- Yellow: 30-70%
- Red: 15-30%
- Blinking Red: 0-15%
Let’s talk about the DNA Go. The DNA Go is in some ways a return to Evolv’s roots with the Kick. The Kick went between the battery and 510 connection inside mechanical mods and allowed you to set your voltage with an adjustable potentiometer. The DNA Go does not feature a screen and at times you forget there is such an advanced chip in your vape. The DNA Go brings the best features from the DNA 75C and 250C with DNA Replay, accurate power delivery and stellar battery efficiency.
The DNA Go can fire from 1w to 30w with a 40w peak. The wattage is set by connecting your Orion to eScribe, Evolv’s software for the DNA series of chips, and uploading the new settings. When you first connect your Orion to eScribe you will see the screen below:
The DL tab is for adjusting settings for 0.25 ohm pods and the MTL tab is for adjusting settings for the 0.5 ohm pods. The Orion can save 3 wattages at a time. To adjust a wattage, change the Power setting in the first column. Each column is for one of the pre-set wattages. Boost raises the initial power output higher to “pre-heat” the coils and give them an initial boost. We have noticed lower boost settings does improve pod life some.
You can also modify the LED color for that setting that is displayed when the button is pressed. The default colors are:
White for the lowest power setting
Blue for the medium setting
Red for the highest power setting
To modify the LED color for a power setting, just click the corresponding color box and you will see this screen:
To activate DNA Replay, hold the adjustment button for 3 seconds to turn the LED green and activate Replay mode. The green light will remain lit while firing. To disable Replay, hold the adjustment button for 3 seconds again. So what is Replay? Once you get the perfect vape for your device, activate Replay. Replay will then adjust settings on the fly to duplicate that vape every time. This allows unparalleled consistency and truly customizing your vape.
The Orion combines the best of Evolv's DNA technology with fantastic pods and a well designed and built device. The DNA Go allows you to dial in the perfect vape and then lock it in with Replay. The Orion Q simplifies all of this in an easy to use ultraportable with impressive performance. The pods are easily fillable, hold 2ml of eLiquid and have adjustable airflow. All of this in a compact, durable device.
